Marlene's visit to Kyoto...so far!

This page is going to be a work in progress as the week goes on...we'll post a few updates and some pictures from our adventures each day.

Yesterday was a marathon day of sightseeing...we visited Nanzen-ji, Honen-in, Ginkaku-ji and the Path of Philosophy. We also grabbed a vegetarian lunch in the Buddhist Temple district...all tofu. The waitstaff was surprised to see us come in and actually came over to us to mention that all they served was tofu...and to see if we were still interested.

The long walk along the Path of Philosophy to Ginkaku-ji was wonderful, and the autumn colours are finally starting to show through.

Ginkaku-ji itself was beautiful, as always and after strolling through its gardens we headed downtown...I went to work and Laura and Mar toured all through central Kyoto.

Today we are on our way to Kinkaku-ji...the Golden Pavilion. It's a beautiful sunny day...perfect for pictures!

The last couple of days has been unbelievable, and we have done more in this time than I could have imagined.

Today we went to Arashiyama, a mountainous part in the West of Kyoto. We went there via the Hozu River, along which we took a long boat ride. We ended up in a wonderful area in the mountains where we took in a few more sights, and visited a beautiful Temple and Zen Garden.

We were also fortunate to stumble on some Maiko...and managed to get some truly incredible pictures. I think Marlene wins the photo contest for the day, with this close-up of one of the Maiko.

It was an unbelievable stroke of luck, and we were extremely fortunate to have had the chance to snap a few pictures.

Laura and Mar also went to go see a Geisha dance last night in Kyoto's gion district...by the sounds of it it was pretty amazing.

I'll be putting up some complete pages in the future, so keep an eye out.
